Today we discussed:-

Article 14 (Freedom of thought, belief and religion)

Every child has the right to think and believe what they want and also practise their religion, as long as they are not stopping other people from enjoying their rights. Governments must respect the rights of parents to give their children guidance about this right.

'I agree with this article. People should be allowed to practise their religion without being stopped or judged by others.' CarrieπŸ‘πŸ½

Next week we look forward to even more learning.πŸ˜„πŸ˜„πŸ˜„πŸ˜„

WEEKLY ROUND UP - Friday 4th October 24

Another week of great learning. On Monday Year 5 worked with a PE Specialist and took part in a Mindfulness session. During the session they had to listen and respond to 2 pieces of music (Fairytale by Ludovico Einaudi and West Africa by Afrobeats)

'I liked this session because we had to listen to a piece of music and starting off with a straight line, draw how it made us feel. I drew wavy lines for my music.' Osabo

'I enjoyed the second piece of music. We had to draw a line to show how the music made us feel and then use our bodies to copy the line we drew. The music made me feel energetic.'  Carrie

'I enjoyed the first piece of music because it made me feel calm and peaceful.' Lily

'I enjoyed the whole session, one of the things we did was to use our fingers as an imaginary pen and draw the music in the air.' Akram

In Rhed we discussed the IMPORTANCE OF WATER.

'I learned that if you leave the tap running while you are brushing your teeth, you waste 6 litres of water! Cyprian

'I learned that there is only 2.5% of fresh water in the world and only 1% is easy to get to!' Charis

'Did you know that fresh water can be found in ice caps, glaciers, streams and rivers.' Aiden

On Wednesday we visited our local library.

'I enjoyed our visit to the library because I was able to have a look at lots of different genres. The book I chose is called:

Girls who changed the world by Michelle Roehm McCann.' Emilia

'I chose a graphic novel. I really enjoy reading them because I can see the action in the pictures. My book is called Pirates Alliance.' Sahaj

Next we continue on with our learning.

WEEKLY ROUND UP - Friday 27th September 24

Another great week of learning. In maths we are continuing to embed our knowledge of the four basic operations.

We have now started a new topic in Geography (RIVERS)

'I have learnt that the Thames Barrier took 8 years to build. It was built to stop London from flooding.' Maisie

'Source means the beginning of a river.' Jack

'I now know that the word meander means a bend or curve in a river.' Carrie

'The mouth of the River Thames flows into the North Sea.' Cavalli

'The length of the River Thames is approximately 360 miles.' Deborah

'Some parts of the River Thames can be up to 8.6 m deep.' Lucca

We have lots of fun improving our skills in PE.

'I enjoyed working as part of team using hand and eye co ordination to achieve our goal.' Nelicia

'I got better at moving my body quickly to avoid getting caught out.' Lili

This week we discussed Article 13 (freedom of expression)

Every child must be free to say what they think and to seek and receive information of any kind as long as it is within the law.

'Children should be able to say what they think and not worry about reactions from adults.' Emilia

'Children should be able to talk about what they want, their thoughts and feelings without being judged.' Shazara

Next week even more learning!!!!!πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰

WEEKLY ROUNDUP - Friday 20th September 24

Another positive week of learning. Year 5 continue to consolidate their skills in maths (reasoning using addition and subtraction.)

In science we have discussed and investigated the process of filtering, sieving and evaporation.

'I have learnt that a solute and a solvent when mixed together creates a solution eg the solute can be salt and the solvent which is a liquid can be water. When they are mixed together they create a solution. To get the salt back to its natural state you have to heat the solution so that the liquid will evaporate and you will be left with salt crystals.' Carrie

'If you make a solution with tea leaves and water you can separate them by filtering. The tea leaves stay in the filter paper and the water drips through the filter paper.' Cyprian

'If you sieve a solution of water and sand, the sand will be left in the sieve and the water will pass straight through.' Maisie

'You can also use the same process of evaporation sugar and water - the water will evaporate and we are left with sugar crystals. Sahaj

Today we discussed Article 10, Family Reunification.

Governments must respond quickly and sympathetically if a child or their parents apply to live together in the same country. If a child's parents live apart in a different country, the child has the right to visit both of them.

'If we did not have this right the government would not have to make much effort to reunite the child/children with their parents.' Hikmat

'If it was me and my parents were separated and the article didn't exist I would be sad because my family would not be able to be reunited.' Carolina

PLEASE HAVE A LOOK AT OUR PAINTINGS INSPIRED BY JOHN CONSTABLE.

Next week we will continue with more positive learning.πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰

SCIENCE - MATERIALS AND THEIR PROPERTIES - REVERSIBLE CHANGES

WEEKLY ROUND UP - Friday 13th September 24

We have had a positive week of learning. In maths we have been improving our skills in Addition and Subtraction using numbers up to six digits.

'At first I found subtracting numbers with zeros in it a bit difficult but after lots practise I now feel more confident.' Cyprian😊

'I enjoyed maths and now feel confident in adding and subtraction.' Charis😊

'I enjoyed doing six digit numbers in maths and it was tricky at first because of how many digits there were but after a while it was not too hard and I feel happy about it now.' MaisieπŸ˜‰

On Wednesday Year 5 took part in a fitness circuit during their PE session.

'I enjoyed the session because of the amount of activities we did. My favourite was sprinting because I had to use a big burst of energy and improve my stopping skills.' JackπŸƒπŸ½‍♂️

'I enjoyed doing fitness in PE because it inspired me to exercise more at home.' EmiliaπŸƒπŸ½‍♀️

'I enjoyed the sessions because when I looked at the different stations I thought all of them looked easy but every single time that I did one, it tired me out in seconds! It made me realise how unfit I am so I need to exercise more.' CavalliπŸ€¨πŸ€”

Year 5 are enjoying their science topic - Materials and their Properties.

'I have learnt that the reversible means when you change something into a different state and you can change it back to its original state. Irreversible means when you change something into a different state but it is impossible to change it back.' ChantelleπŸ€”πŸ˜€

'I found it interesting when we had to sort different materials into two groups irreversible and reversible. I enjoyed discussing where they should go and why.' CarolinaπŸ˜πŸ˜€

'This week in our science topic I enjoyed learning about the words reversible and irreversible. I also learnt some other words eg., the word boiling is when you heat something up to 100 degrees celsius, condensation is when a liquid turns into a gas and finally solidifying is when a liquid turns into a solid.' Andrew😊😊

Today in Rights Respecting we have been discussing Article 7.

Article7 (registration, name, nationality, care)

Every child has the right to a legally registered name and nationality, as well as the right to know and, as far possible, to be cared for by their parents.

'I think that it is important that you are registered at birth because if you are not registered at birth it is like you don't exist and it will be hard for you to go to school.' LilliπŸ™‚

'I enjoyed discussing the article with my partner because we were able to share our thoughts on registering children at birth so they have a name and the importance of having a nationality.' NeliciaπŸ˜‰

Next week we look forward to even more learning!!!πŸ“šπŸ“šπŸ“š
