WEEK 5

'LOCKDOWN' WEEK 5 -   ** HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOSHLYN **

Hope you are all well.

Summer's here. Yes, this is the start of the SUMMER TERM. Time starts ticking towards Secondary School.....SO DON'T FORGET MATHLETICS AND READING EGGS !!

Now, I know that many of you have enjoyed reading some great books/series this year..... NOUGHTS and CROSSES, NORTHERN LIGHTS, THE DARREN SHAN SERIES etc etc. but how are you going to inspire others to read them? Yes, it's time for some awesome book reviews! They don't need to be long, just eye-catching and able to be read whilst on the wall (so no tiny writing!!) Don't give away too much of the story...just tease and tempt the reader of the review into reading the book!

If you are feeling REALLY creative, why not design a whole new book corner for Year 6?.......Let's face it ours is functional but a bit boring!!

Finally, EMBEDDED LEARNING CHECK....... WITH ANSWERS NOW!!

1. What is propaganda and how was it used in World War 1?

Propaganda is when information is given out to promote something or to influence people to do something but it bends the truth or doesn't tell the whole truth to achieve the purpose. We looked at WW1 posters about men joining the army; it all looked very appealing but conditions were horrible. In this way, lots of men were 'tricked' into joining up.

2. What is Epiphany all about?

It is a celebration in the Christian faith of the 3 Wise Men (or Kings) arrive to see baby Jesus. It is on the 6th of January. As always there are some variations on this. It can also be a sudden understanding or 'a light bulb moment' - you know when you suddenly understand something - OH YEAH !!

3.  Who was Katherine Johnson?

She was the lady we studied in assembly during Black History month. Despite being subject to terrible racist and sexist attitudes, she was partly responsible for working out the calculations that took Man to the moon in the Apollo Rockets. Sadly, since the assembly, she has passed away at the age of 101.

HOW MANY DID YOU GET RIGHT??

Stay safe, don't drive your parents mad and look after yourselves.
