Phonics

Phonics is a super important part of our day in school and we must make sure we keep reading whilst at home. If we can do nothing else, reading is the best thing we can be doing. Phonics is a way of teaching children how to read and write. It helps children hear, identify and use different sounds that distinguish one word from another in the English language. Despite there being just 26 letters in the English language there are approximately 44 unique sounds, also known as phonemes. The 44 sounds help distinguish one word or meaning from another. Various letters and letter combinations known as graphemes are used to represent the sounds.

In School we follow the Letters and Sounds planning to support phonics teaching. Your child can now receive a daily phonics lesson whilst schools are closed.

Please see attached a letter below explaining how you will be able to access this vital resource!
